Childcare Site Director

Site Director – Healthy Kids Programs

Location: Hemphill Elementary School, Birmingham, AL

Role: Part-Time, Non-Exempt Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:30 PM–6:00 PM (follows school calendar, summer hours possible) Pay: $17.00–$20.00 per hour Reports To: Area Director/Associate Executive Director Direct Reports: Site Staff

The Site Director is the heart of a Healthy Kids Programs location. You’ll drive a high-quality, engaging childcare program kids love and families trust, lead and support your team, ensure full compliance with state regulations, and maintain top-tier operations. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who thrives on energy, organization, and making a tangible impact every day.

  • Compliance: Every ratio is maintained, paperwork is accurate and up-to-date, and your program is inspection-ready at any time.
  • Inventory: Supplies are well-stocked, restocked proactively, and teachers have everything they need—no gaps mid-program.

🔹 Key Responsibilities

1. Program Quality & Enrollment

  • Run a daily program aligned with HKP’s curriculum and values, implementing the 10 Healthy Ways to Engage with Students.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive environment where every child feels valued and excited to attend.
  • Build strong family relationships: communicate openly, proactively share updates, and deliver a program so good they recommend it to others.
  • Support enrollment efforts—participate in outreach, share feedback, and meet with your Multi-Site Director to reduce churn.
  • Report program insights, family feedback, and enrollment challenges clearly to leadership.

2. Staffing & Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor Lead Teachers & Assistant Teachers, setting clear expectations for conduct and program delivery.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs, provide real-time coaching, and reinforce high standards.
  • Proactively address scheduling gaps, coverage needs, and staffing shortages with your Multi-Site Director.
  • Onboard and train new staff to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Model leadership by addressing performance concerns immediately and fostering a supportive team culture.

3. Payroll, Labor & Scheduling Efficiency

  • Schedule to ratio perfectly—ensuring compliance and budget responsibility by balancing staff hours without over- or under-paying.
  • Accurately review and approve timecards on time; verify hours match actual work conducted.
  • Monitor payroll costs against budget—flag issues and adjust accordingly.
  • Optimize schedules to minimize overtime and maximize efficiency; keep staff informed about changes.
  • Master HKP’s payroll platforms (e.g., Paylocity) with precision.

4. Compliance & Site Safety

  • Actively maintain required staff-to-child ratios at all times—this is never negotiable.
  • Track daily attendance meticulously; keep records organized and current.
  • Ensure the program space is clean, safe, and compliant with state licensing standards.
  • Verify all staff possess current certifications (CPR, First Aid, Mandated Reporter Training, etc.).
  • Handle any safety or compliance risks immediately—be prepared for unannounced inspections.

5. Inventory & Resources Management

  • Organize and maintain supplies, materials, and equipment at your site.
  • Track inventory in real time; alert leadership before shortages disrupt programming.
  • Ensure teachers have arts, crafts, academic support, and activity needs covered daily.
  • Store materials securely and address broken/damaged items promptly.
  • Champion responsible use of resources and set a stewardship example for your team.

📋 Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to pass a TB test.
  • Willingness to complete onboarding, state-mandated training, and add certification (First Aid/CPR) if needed.
  • Familiarity with Alabama DHR licensing standards.
  • Experience with HVAC (Arise) system is a plus.
