Childcare Site Director

Site Director – Birmingham, AL

Territory & Compensation

  • Location: Birmingham, AL
  • Pay: $17.00 – $20.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Mon–Fri, 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM (follows school calendar; summer hours possible)
  • Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

The Role

The Site Director is the heart of a Healthy Kids Programs location. You’ll oversee every aspect of the daily program—ensuring it’s high-quality, engaging, and safe, while maintaining compliance, strong staffing, and top-tier operations. This is a role for someone who is energetic, organized, and passionate about making a direct difference for kids every day.


Success Looks Like This

  • Program Quality: Kids are engaged, safe, and having fun; families trust the program and re-enroll consistently
  • Staffing: The site is fully staffed daily; teachers are supported and show up for kids
  • Compliance: The site operates in full ratio compliance; all records are accurate; the program is inspection-ready
  • Inventory: Supplies are well-stocked; restocking is strategic—no mid-week shortages

Key Responsibilities

1. Program Quality & Enrollment

  • Run a high-quality, engaging daily program aligned with HKP’s curriculum, values, and standards
  • Implement HKP’s 10 Healthy Ways to Engage with Students and daily programming materials consistently
  • Create a safe, welcoming, fun environment where every child feels seen, included, and cared for
  • Maintain proactive, warm communication with families
  • Boost enrollment by delivering a program families love and recommend to others
  • Participate in outreach events as requested
  • Share program observations, family feedback, and enrollment insights with Multi-Site Director

2. Staffing – Supporting & Leading Teachers

  • Supervise and support Lead Teachers and Assistant Teachers in daily operations
  • Set clear expectations for staff conduct, program delivery, and professionalism
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs to observe program quality and compliance; provide real-time coaching
  • Proactively address scheduling needs and coverage gaps with Multi-Site Director
  • Assist with new staff onboarding and rapid training
  • Flag performance concerns or personnel issues promptly and in writing
  • Foster a supportive team culture aligned with HKP’s mission

3. Payroll, Labor & Scheduling Efficiency

  • Schedule staff to exact ratio compliance (never over/understaffed)
  • Approve accurate timecards on time, ensuring hours reflect actual work
  • Monitor payroll budget; investigate and address under/overallocations
  • Optimize schedules to minimize overtime and maximize coverage
  • Use Paylocity systems accurately; communicate schedule changes clearly

4. Compliance – Ratios & Site Safety

  • Maintain required staff-to-child ratios at all times (non-negotiable)
  • Keep daily attendance records accurate and up-to-date
  • Ensure the site meets all state licensing requirements for safety and cleanliness
  • Verify all staff have current certifications (CPR, first aid, mandated reporter training)
  • Report health/safety/compliance issues immediately
  • Always be inspection-ready—maintain high standards daily

5. Inventory Management

  • Maintain an organized system for supplies, materials, and equipment
  • Track inventory; request restocks before shortages occur
  • Ensure teachers have arts/supply academic resources available
  • Log damaged/missing equipment and submit repair requests efficiently
  • Store materials properly; model stewardship with the team

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Pass a TB test
  • Ability to complete state-mandated trainings if not pre-certified
  • First Aid & CPR certification (or commitment to obtain upon hire)
  • Familiarity with Alabama DHR licensing standards (preferred)
