Childcare Solicitor
West Midlands | £50,856 - £57,083 | Hybrid Working
If you're an experienced Childcare Solicitor looking for a role where you can handle your own advocacy, work on complex and meaningful cases, and enjoy genuine flexibility, this could be an excellent opportunity.
We're working exclusively with a well-established West Midlands local authority that is looking to appoint a Childcare Solicitor to join its highly regarded in-house legal team.
This is a permanent opportunity within a friendly, supportive and high-performing team that has built an excellent reputation across the organisation. You'll join a service with strong leadership, well-established processes and experienced legal support, allowing you to focus on delivering high quality legal advice and advocacy while continuing to develop your own career.
The Role
You'll advise Children's Services on a broad range of public law childcare matters, managing your own varied caseload from instruction through to conclusion. Advocacy forms a significant part of the role, with the expectation that you'll undertake the majority of your own hearings, while more complex matters are supported by experienced in-house Counsel.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
