The Role

Core Responsibilities

As a Social Worker or Senior Social Worker in Gloucestershire County Council, your primary function is to:

  • Assess, plan and implement early intervention support, safeguard, and protect children at risk
  • Build instrumental professional relationships with families, colleagues and partner agencies
  • Enacting legal safeguarding frameworks, court submissions and legalities where required
  • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in all actions
  • Provide mentorship & supervision to mentees
  • Use systemic practice to positively influence family dynamics for lasting change

Key Tasks for Senior Social Workers

  • Lead complex cases, acting as clinical lead in limited circumstances
  • Case management supervision, ensuring high-quality practice locally and regionally
  • Support and develop Junior Social Workers (including NQSWs)
  • Represent the team at cross-agency forums

About You (Requirements & Qualifications)

Mandatory Criteria

  • Social Work England registration
  • A recognition degree or equivalent qualification in Social Work
  • If qualified after 2012, completed ASYE (Assessed and Supported Year in Employment)
  • A full UK driving licence and commitment to use this for deputised visits
  • Enhanced DBS clearance (Adults & Children’s check)
  • For Senior Social Worker roles: minimum 2–3 years relevant post-qualified experience

Pre-Selected Support Pathways

  • Newly qualified? We offer:
    • Joining our UKAS-accredited ASYE programme
    • Assistance with completing courses leading to Registered Manager autonomy (e.g., Registered Manager Training route)
  • Becoming a Senior SW? We can provide:
    • Advanced Practice Diploma (Government funded via Skills for Care)
    • Mentorship under senior peer/authorities
