Around 90,000 young people across the UK are persistently absent from education each year. At Nudge Education, we support children and young people who are disengaged from education through tailored mentoring and interventions to help them reconnect, rebuild confidence, and thrive.
About the Role
We are seeking compassionate and adaptable practitioners to deliver personalised 1:1 support to young people with SEN (Special Educational Needs), SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health), or additional needs.
This is a community-focused role, moving beyond traditional classrooms to create safe, engaging, and meaningful learning experiences.

You Will:
- Deliver tailored intervention sessions aligned to each young person’s needs
- Build positive and consistent relationships to engage and support them
- Monitor progress, développemental milestones and learning outcomes
- Report any safeguarding concerns diligently
- Conduct and update risk assessments, ensuring compliance where required
- Maintain accurate records of interventions, interactions, and outcomes
- Collaborate with families, educators, social workers, and our dedicated regional teams

Who We’re Looking For
You’ll likely have a background in:
- Education (teacher, teaching assistant, or education support role)
- Youth work, healthcare, or social care
- Coaching, uniformed services, or other people-focused sectors
We value: ✔ Empathy – an ability to relate with young people who may face complex challenges ✔ Resilience – to navigate multiple challenges with patience and consistency ✔ Creativity – in designing approaches that engage and motivate young people ✔ Trust-building skills – to earn active collaboration from vulnerable young people
Requirements
Essential:
- Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in supporting young people
- Experience of working with young people with SEN, SEMH, emotional or behavioural challenges
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Right to work in the UK
- Availability for at least 3 weekdays during daytime hours (Monday–Friday)
Desirable (but not essential):
- Teaching or therapeutic qualifications (e.g., SENCo, coaching, psychotherapist, mental health nurse)
- Safeguarding or de-escalation training
- Knowledge or experience of:
- ADHD, ASD, PDA (pathological demand avoidance), and trauma-informed approaches
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity

Practicalities
- Flexible opportunities based on location and student match
- Pay: £16–£25 per hour for lead/mentor roles (expenses covered)
- Working hours: Monday–Friday, daytime availability required
We prioritise consistent availability to support student confidence and stability throughout interventions.
