Children and Young Persons Team Leader

Newham – Permanent, Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

As a dynamic and enthusiastic Team Leader for Children and Young Persons, you’ll play a critical role in shaping our innovative, user-focused service delivery across Newham. Your responsibilities include leading a team, fostering a culture of excellence, managing line responsibilities, and driving continuous improvement in support systems.

37.5 per week (Full-time)

Contract:

Permanent

Note: Salary and benefits for part-time roles are pro-rated based on contracted hours.


Responsibilities

Your primary focus will be on operational leadership and service excellence, ensuring a positive impact for children and young people. Key responsibilities include:

Team Leadership & Management

  • Operational line management, including:
    • Supervision, appraisals, performance and sickness management
    • Ensuring staff adhere to Charity’s operational policies and external compliance guidelines
  • Recruitment, selection and induction of new staff
  • Leadership by example to maintain a professional, positive, and supportive team culture

Service Delivery & Safeguarding

  • Support staff in assessing children, young people and their families
  • Collaborate with teams to prepare tailored plans and motivate engagement with support services
  • Ensure competency across staff in delivering evidence-based interventions that reduce risk to service users
  • Monitor and enhance service quality in partnership with the Deputy Service Manager
  • Proactively develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners to improve supported outcomes

Quality Assurance & Development

  • Provide values-based feedback to staff through observed practice
  • Drive continuous learning environment where professionalism and integrity lead to positive outcomes for users
  • Support the Operational Leadership Team in maintaining safe and welcoming working and service environments
  • Take ownership of data collection, outcome monitoring, and record-keeping

About You

We’re looking for an experienced leader who is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people. Ideal candidates should possess:

  • Experience in working with children and young people facing complex needs linked to substance use and behavioural challenges
  • Expertise in drugs, alcohol misuse, and related effects on young people and families
  • Proven line management experience, with skills to empower and motivate teams
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge, showing track record in embedding policy and practice
  • Relationship-building ability, capable of fostering new and maintaining existing partnerships
  • Knowledge of psychosocial and trauma-informed support/outreach strategies
  • Demonstrable skills in:
    • Confident communication, both verbally and in writing
    • Adaptability and flexibility under pressure
    • Extraordinary commitment to facilitating positive service-user outcomes

Key Details

Salary Range

£36,101.10 – £38,114.53 per annum (for 37.5 hours) with additional Inner London Weighting = £4,236.47

[Salaries are pro-rated for part-time roles]

DBS Requirement

All shortlisted candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check before an offer can be confirmed.
