I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Our vision is for the children and families of Rotherham to routinely experience and describe the services they receive from us, as outstanding. And we intend to do that by putting the child first in everything we do.

Change is happening at Rotherham’s Children and Young People’s Services. We offer a 'total reward' package which means our social workers and managers are 'well paid, well managed and well developed'. We have secured vital funding for the significant expansion of our workforce, with a strong focus on child protection. We are also in the process of upgrading our administrative capability with much-improved IT systems.

We have restructured to enable us to deploy much smaller teams. This means a greater degree of supervision and a more appropriate caseload level – enabling our practitioners to focus on fewer customers, ensuring those who need us most get the attention they need.

We have invested in training programmes and set out a clear career development pathway. From continuing your professional development with ongoing, practical training, to reaching senior management levels, at Rotherham there is a definite ladder to be climbed for those with talent and ambition. In return we are looking for a real commitment to making a difference to the children and families in need of our care. This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced, flexible and dedicated social workers in a managerial role, to really make a difference to children in need of our protection.
