The Role
You’ll work closely with the Head of Care, Registered Managers, and Support Team across our four residential homes, supporting children and young people aged 8–18 with complex, multi-faceted needs, including:
- Health & emotional distress
- Developmental delays
- Attachment issues
- Behavioural challenges arising from trauma or unmet needs
Key Responsibilities
- Advocate for children’s health needs within the MDT and care planning
- Promote physical health, emotional wellbeing, identity development, and daily living skills
- Support hygeine, self-care, sleep, puberty, gender identity, and mental health promotion in empowering, sensitive, and inclusive ways
- Collaborate across residential services to advise on best practice
- Work with residential staff, key workers, schools, and external health services to improve outcomes
- Shape clinical governance and quality assurance with leadership
- Contribute to service development, ensuring safe, effective, and responsive care
About the Children Supported
Our residents may present with:
- History of trauma and adversity
- Disrupted attachment experiences
- Developmental delays
- Educational/learning challenges
- Emotional distress and behavioural struggles
The role demands a trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and relational approach.

Essentials
Qualifications & Experience Required
- Register as either a Children’s Nurse (RNC) or Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with the NMC
- 5+ years’ experience working with look-after children
- Deep understanding of health, developmental, and trauma-informed needs of looked-after children
- Expertise in child development, attachment theory, and trauma-informed practice
- Safeguarding, risk assessment, and safety planning experience
- Ability to work with children exhibiting distressed behaviour
- Strong advocacy, communication, and multi-agency collaboration skills
- Experience working independently across multiple sites
- UK driving licence & access to a vehicle
Desirable Experience
- Therapeutic training (play therapy, art therapy, systemic or family therapy)
- Experience in staff upskilling, coaching, or practice guidance
- Familiarity with CAMHS or children’s mental health services
- Leadership or management experience (mentoring, supervising, or service development)
- Knowledge of evaluative practices and child protection systems
Location & Hours
- Works flexible shifts supporting four residential homes in Lymington, Andover, Fareham & Romsey
- 15–20 hours/week agreement (increase opportunities available)
