Children's Residential Support Worker

Salary up to £34,080.00 (10 shifts per month including sleeps) to up to £40,896.00 (12 shifts per month including sleeps)

At Prosperity Children’s Services, we provide safe, nurturing and therapeutic homes where children and young people are supported to heal, grow and achieve positive outcomes. We are looking for a Residential Support Worker who is caring, patient and committed to making a meaningful difference in children’s lives.

The Role

As a Residential Support Worker, you will provide day-to-day care and support to children and young people living in the home. You will help create a safe, stable and welcoming environment where children feel listened to, respected and supported to develop emotionally, socially and practically.

You will work as part of a supportive team, following care plans and guidance from senior staff, and contributing to a home that consistently meets Ofsted Good and Outstanding standards.

Key Responsibilities

Caring for Children and Young People

  • Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with children and young people.
  • Support children with their emotional wellbeing, daily routines, education and activities.
  • Promote positive behaviour using therapeutic, trauma-informed and relational approaches.
  • Support children to develop independence, confidence and life skills.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children at all times, following policies and procedures.

Working as Part of the Team

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure consistent care and routines.
  • Follow guidance from senior staff and contribute positively to shift plans.
  • Participate in handovers, team meetings and reflective discussions.
  • Support new staff and students as appropriate.

Care Planning, Recording and Outcomes

  • Follow individual care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
  • Accurately complete daily records, logs and reports in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support children to attend education, health appointments, family time and activities.
  • Share relevant information with senior staff to support positive outcomes.

Creating a Safe and Homely Environment

  • Help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming home environment.
  • Encourage children to take pride in their home and personal space.
  • Promote inclusion, equality and respect within the home.

Essential

What We’re Looking For

  • A genuine desire to support and care for children and young people.
  • A calm, patient and compassionate approach.
  • Willingness to learn and develop within the role.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow guidance.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and sleep-ins.

Desirable

  • Experience working with children or young people in a care or support setting.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it).
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed or therapeutic approaches.
