Role Description
Title: Children’s Residential Support Worker Location: March, on-site Contract: Full-time, permanent Key Theme: Trauma-informed care
This full-time, on-site role is based in March, providing consistent, trauma-informed care and support to children and young people residing in a residential setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Building relationships: Foster positive, trusting relationships with young people through consistent, reliable support.
- Daily care: Assist with daily routines to maintain structure and confidence.
- Promoting independence: Develop and support skills in education, life skills, and social engagement.
- Care planning: Implement and review individual care plans for each young person.
- Safeguarding: Maintain high safeguarding standards and follow child protection procedures.
- Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues, social workers, medical professionals and external agencies to ensure the wellbeing and safety of young people.
- Household duties: Active participation in household responsibilities in the residential setting.
- Recording and reporting: Accurately track and document observations, progress, and incidents, updating teams accordingly.
- Team contribution: Participate in team meetings, training, and reflective practice sessions to enhance practice quality.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential Criteria
- Experience in Support Worker roles or similar childcare/children’s social care environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication to build relationships with young people and teams.
- Child protection and safeguarding experience, including awareness of legal frameworks and policy compliance.
- Accurate familiarity with digital systems (e.g., secure record-keeping platforms, email-based communication methods).
Desirable
- A Level 3 qualification in Children and Young People’s Care, Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
- Experience in residential childcare where consistent, long-term support is provided.
- Understanding of therapeutic approaches and relationship-based practice.
- Commitment to working flexibly within shifts, emergencies and weekends.
- Experience of reflective practice and self-awareness of how individual biases might influence work.
- Diversity and equality understanding, ensuring all support is inclusive without discrimination.
Note: Selected candidates will undergo a DBS check before commencing the role.
