Children’s Residential Senior Support Worker (Team Leader) – Derby

About the Role
My client, a well-known Children’s Residential Care Company, believes that no child should be disadvantaged and that all children should be part of a supportive community.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Team Leader to join a children’s home in Derby, which has been rated Good by Ofsted and works closely with external agencies, including local authorities. In return for dedication and commitment, you can expect:

Role Responsibilities
As the Team Leader in Derby’s children’s residential home, you will:
- Lead and supervise a team of care staff
- Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to staff members
- Ensure the team adheres to policies, procedures, and safeguarding regulations
- Conduct staff meetings, appraisals, and performance reviews
- Support with rotas and shift planning
- Ensure the wellbeing, safety, and welfare of young people in the home
- Respond appropriately to incidents, safeguarding concerns, or disclosures
- Provide emotional and practical support to children, meeting their individual needs
- Create and maintain care plans tailored to each child’s requirements
- Encourage children’s independence, life skills, and positive behaviours
- Support with education, activities, and social engagement
- Address and manage challenging behaviours using de-escalation techniques
- Maintain accurate records (care plans, daily logs, incidents)
- Ensure compliance with Ofsted regulations and Children’s Home Standards
- Complete risk assessments and follow health and safety protocols
- Monitor adherence to legislation and organisational policies
- Participate in inspections and audits, demonstrating good practice
- Work alongside social workers, therapists, teachers, and healthcare professionals
- Attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings

Ideal Candidate Requirements
To thrive in this role, you should have:
- A NVQ Level 3/4 in Residential Childcare
- At least 6 months’ experience working within a children’s setting
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience
- Safeguarding training and knowledge of child protection procedures
- Emotional intelligence, empathy, patience, and resilience when supporting vulnerable children
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to handle challenging behaviours effectively
- Excellent organisation and administrative skills
