About Derbyshire County Council

Derbyshire County Council is ambitious and innovative, offering support to both newly qualified and experienced social workers. We provide a nurturing environment with excellent progression opportunities. Our vision is to inspire and empower children, young people, and their families to be the best they can be.

Derbyshire is a large authority divided into six localities: Amber Valley, Chesterfield, Erewash, High Peak (Buxton, Glossop, New Mills, and Matlock), Bolsover and North-East, and South Derbyshire. Alongside our Locality teams, we have a countywide Children with Disabilities Service.

Social workers are very positive about working for Derbyshire. Senior leaders have established a positive organizational culture, evident across the whole workforce. Workers feel respected and valued by leaders.’ - OFSTED

We’re proud to say that our Children’s Services have received a ‘Good’ rating in our most recent OFSTED inspection and we’re on the lookout for passionate and driven qualified social workers to contribute to the well-being of children and families across Derbyshire.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
