Role Description
The C&I CAD Designer will create and modify detailed Instrumentation & Control drawings and documentation for industrial projects, ensuring designs meet technical standards and client specifications. Day-to-day responsibilities include producing P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring schematics, panel layouts, hookup drawings, cable schedules, and instrument schedules, as well as maintaining drawing records and revision control.
The role involves collaborating closely with engineers and project managers, coordinating with site teams, and supporting design queries throughout the project lifecycle. The C&I CAD Designer will also assist in reviewing design inputs, applying industry codes and standards, and preparing documentation for installation and commissioning. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Coventry and the candidate must be flexible to be based at client’s location for long term.

Qualifications
- Strong CAD design skills for Instrumentation & Control, including experience with relevant CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar) and creating P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
- Solid understanding of control and instrumentation principles, industrial automation systems, and applicable standards and regulations in sectors such as oil & gas, power, or wastewater.
- Ability to interpret engineering documents, including specifications, datasheets, and vendor drawings, and translate them into accurate, clear design deliverables.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills to work with multidisciplinary teams, respond to site queries, and manage design revisions and documentation control.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in an on-site engineering environment.
- Previous experience in industrial projects and familiarity with health, safety, and environmental considerations in design work are highly beneficial.

Requirements
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a C&I Drafter.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and 3D.
- Strong understanding of Control & Instrumentation drafting practices.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, engineering specifications, and technical documentation.
- Site experience is desirable.
- Willingness to work at client locations across the UK for long-term assignments (6 months or more).
- A full UK driving licence is preferred; however, candidates without one are welcome to apply, provided they are willing to obtain one after joining.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and teamwork skills.
