We are currently recruiting for an experienced Specification Sales Engineer to join the team at Eaton. This would be a remote role with a wide ranging client base across England and a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build upon exisiting Sales Engineer experience within the fire industry into an orgnisation with large growth and future opportunity.
Our Cwmbran facility is the center of excellence for the Fire product line, we are a leading manufacturer and a global supplier of high-quality fire systems and devices. With our ability to provide complete systems, not just components, our customers can be confident in the knowledge that all of our products have been specifically designed and tested to ensure that they are all fully compatible to form a reliable, compliant fire detection and alarm system.
What You’ll Do
The C&I Specification Engineer is responsible for driving specified demand for the company’s fire detection and alarm solutions by influencing design, standards interpretation, and system selection at the earliest stages of a project.
The role focuses on client and consultant engagement, specification creation, design support, and pre‑tender influence, ensuring products and systems are designed in, correctly specified, and protected through to tender and installation.
Key Responsibilities
Specification & Design Influence
Develop and maintain strong relationships with fire consultants, M&E consultants, consulting engineers, architects, and design houses. Influence system architecture, device selection, and compliance approaches in line with: BS 5839‑1, Relevant EN standards, Building Safety Act / Gateway requirements Ensure the company’s solutions are named or performance‑specified in: Specifications, Fire strategies, Tender documentation
Project Pipeline Development
Identify and track early‑stage and pre‑tender projects across commercial, industrial, infrastructure, and regulated buildings Convert design engagement into protected specification opportunities through to tender stage Work closely with colleagues to secure orders through contractors, system integrator, and distribution teams to ensure continuity from design to order

Technical & Standards Expertise
Act as a technical authority for fire detection solutions within the specification environment Support consultants with: System selection, Cause & effect philosophy, Network design, Compliance interpretation Maintain a high level of knowledge on: Regulatory changes, Evolving fire standards, Market trends and competing technologies Product Positioning & Value Engineering Defence be able to defend specifications through: Value engineering challenges, Contractor substitutions, Cost‑down exercises. Articulate total cost of ownership, system integrity, compliance risk, and lifecycle value Ensure specification intelligence is logged and shared through CRM systems You will work closely with: Fire & Intrusion system sales teams, Key account managers, Marketing and technical support. Provide feedback to product management on: Market needs, Consultant preferences, Standards‑driven gaps. "
Specification & Pipeline Deliverables
Number of active specified projects under management Value of specified pipeline tracked in CRM (pre‑tender and tender stages) Specification win rate (specified projects converting to order) Projects reaching named or protected specification status
Consultant Engagement Deliverables
Regular engagement cadence with target consultant accounts New consultant relationships developed per quarter Technical seminars, CPDs or lunch‑and‑learns delivered
Technical & Quality Deliverables
Compliant specifications produced or supported (aligned to BS 5839‑1) Design reviews completed for key projects Reduction in specification erosion at tender or VE stage
Internal Contribution Deliverables
Accurate CRM project reporting Market and competitor insight shared with leadership and product teams Support provided to system integrators and sales colleagues on specified projects Regular Check-in Calls with Customer Contacts

Qualifications
Professional Technician, bachelor or master in electrical engineering OR justifyable equivalent education 2-5 years - Experience in Commercial & Institutional (C&I) Building Projects, with wider experience of working with building services consultants and fire detection equipment
