Role Title
EAD Circuit Designer / Access Circuit Design Engineer
Location
UK-based preferred. Hybrid / remote with occasional site or stakeholder workshops if required.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced EAD Circuit Designer / Access Circuit Design Engineer to support the delivery of telecommunications circuits into electricity substations and utility environments. This is not a generic network design role. The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience with BT/Openreach Ethernet Access Direct (EAD), leased line, and Carrier Ethernet circuit design, ensuring telecom infrastructure is technically feasible, compliant, and ready for deployment within complex, high-voltage environments.
You will collaborate with Vodafone engineering teams, BT/Openreach, SPEN stakeholders, commissioning engineers, field teams, and suppliers to deliver high-quality implementation-ready designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design BT/Openreach EAD, Carrier Ethernet, and leased-line access circuits.
- Review BT/Openreach survey outputs and determine circuit feasibility.
- Assess fibre and copper access suitability based on site conditions.
- Interpret site surveys, technical documentation, and access constraints.
- Produce High-Level Designs (HLD), Low-Level Designs (LLD), implementation packs, and as-built documentation.
- Identify design risks, site readiness issues, and delivery blockers.
- Evaluate EMC, EMI, Earth Potential Rise (EPR), and other substation-specific requirements.
- Validate cabinet specifications, ventilation, cable entry, EMC compliance, and rack requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers, commissioning teams, and field engineers throughout project delivery.
- Ensure designs are complete for Acceptance Into Live Support (AILS).

Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience designing BT/Openreach EAD, Ethernet Access, Carrier Ethernet, or leased-line circuits.
- Strong understanding of the BT/Openreach delivery lifecycle, including surveys, provisioning, civils, wayleaves, and site readiness.
- Experience producing telecom access design documentation (HLDs, LLDs, implementation packs, and as-built drawings).
- Excellent understanding of fibre access design and circuit routing.
- Ability to interpret technical surveys, supplier documentation, and implementation requirements.
- Experience working with BT/Openreach, commissioning engineers, suppliers, and delivery teams.

Highly Desirable
- Experience delivering telecom solutions within utilities, substations, power, rail, or industrial environments.
- Knowledge of:
- Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
- Earth Potential Rise (EPR)
- Fibre vs Copper design considerations
- EMC cabinets, 45U racks, cable entry, ventilation, filters, and gland plates
