Citizen Science Volunteer Coordinator and Science Communicator

Friends of the River Wye (FORW)

Friends of the River Wye (FORW) are seeking an exceptional Citizen Science Volunteer Coordinator and Science Communicator to help coordinate our network of citizen scientists and drive public awareness of the plight of the Rivers Wye and Lugg. This role sits at the intersection of citizen science, volunteer coordination, science communication, community mobilisation, and partnership building—ensuring local voices and evidence guide efforts to restore the river’s health.

This is the ideal role for a passionate, environmentally committed, and scientifically literate person who combines creativity with ecological understanding, thrives on social media engagement, and is effective in building relationships—whether in farmer kitchens or online forums.

If you believe in the power of people, data, and persistent, positive pressure to bring a river back to life, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

1. Community & Volunteer Engagement

  • Work closely with volunteer citizen scientists, amplifying their findings and strengthening local action against pollution.
  • Maintain stocks of equipment and consumables for citizen scientists, managing distribution logistics.
  • Recruit, train, organise, and coordinate citizen scientists, including:
    • Attending events
    • Coordinating meet-ups
    • Running training and feedback sessions (priority for evening/weekend availability)
  • Align efforts with FORW’s strategic priorities, collaborating with citizen science management teams and Trustees.

2. Communications & Social Media Leadership

  • Be a highly active force across social platforms, with responsibilities for:
    • Posting regular updates, responding to comments, and countering misinformation.
    • Maintaining a consistent, evidence-led voice across channels.
    • Growing engagement and reach of FORW’s social media presence.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
