Civil Engineer - Highways, Drainage & Development Infrastructure

Position Overview

  • Title: Civil Engineer - Highways, Drainage & Development Infrastructure
  • Location: Birmingham (Hybrid Working Available)
  • Salary: £30,000 – £45,000 + Benefits
  • Type: Full-Time | Permanent

Role Summary

Are you a Civil Engineer with experience in highways, drainage, or development infrastructure design looking to advance your career?

An established and highly regarded development infrastructure consultancy in Birmingham is seeking to appoint a Civil Engineer into its growing office. The Opportunity

The Role

As a Civil Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the design and delivery of highways and drainage infrastructure for development schemes.
    • Producing highway designs (S38/S278) at preliminary and detailed design stages.
    • Supporting drainage designs (S104/S98):
      • Surface water drainage
      • Foul drainage
      • SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) design
      • Flow control and attenuation/balancing solutions
      • Foul pumping stations
  • Assisting with earthworks and site level design.
  • Collaborating with planners, architects, external consultants, and approving authorities.
  • Supporting projects from feasibility through to detailed design and approvals.
  • Producing technical drawings, calculations, and design documentation.
  • Working closely with senior engineers and technicians to ensure high-quality project delivery.

Requirements

To be considered, you must have:

  • Experience in civil infrastructure design, ideally within highways and/or drainage.
  • A background in UK development infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant design standards and approval processes.
  • Experience using software such as:
    • Civil 3D
    • MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage
    • Causeway Flow
    • PDS
  • Experience contributing to designs for residential, commercial, or mixed-use developments.
  • A BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn, develop, and collaborate.
