Civil Design Engineer | Water AMP 8
About the Role
A long-term, Outside IR35 opportunity is available for an experienced Civil Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects across a broad programme of work.
- Contract: Long-term, Outside IR35
- Location: Chatham, Kent (Flexible Hybrid)
- Office Presence: Regular visits to the Chatham office required
This role involves developing, reviewing, and coordinating civil engineering designs within a fast-paced, essential services environment.
Key Responsibilities

Produce, review, and develop civil engineering designs for:
- Water and wastewater infrastructure
- Relevant non-infrastructure components

Prepare design calculations, technical drawings, and specifications, adhering to industry and regulatory standards

Provide support in:
- Feasibility assessments
- Optioneering
- Early-stage technical input for projects

Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including process, mechanical, electrical, and delivery functions

Ensure designs prioritise:
- Buildability
- Cost efficiency
- Safety
- Sustainability

Manage and coordinate design documentation throughout the project lifecycle

Offer technical support during construction:
- Address design queries
- Respond to Request for Information (RFI)

Assist in ensuring compliance with:
- Construction Design and Management (CDM)
- Company policies
- Water sector standards

Skills & Experience Required

Proven experience as a Civil Design Engineer in:
- Water or utilities sectors
- Infrastructure environments

Strong proficiency in civil design tools, including:
- AutoCAD
- Civil3D
- MicroDrainage (or similar software)

Sound understanding of:
- Water and wastewater infrastructure
- Pipelines
- Pumping stations
- Associated civil assets

Technical reporting and drawing production expertise

Experience working in multidisciplinary project environments

Effective communication skills with a collaborative mindset

Ability to:
- Work independently
- Proactively engage with stakeholders
