Job Title: Lead Civil Engineer
Rate: £50 – £60 per hour (dependent on experience)
Location: Birmingham / Glasgow / Chester / Leeds (Flexible UK base / hybrid)
Type: Contract – Inside IR35, Hybrid
About the Role:
Our client is seeking Lead Civil Engineers to join their Delivery group, working on non-infrastructure UK water engineering projects. You will act as a technical specialist and/or in a lead role, developing and applying advanced engineering techniques, while guiding project teams to deliver high-quality outputs.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, and engineering codes.
- Prepare calculations and develop civil engineering deliverables (models, drawings, reports) within budget, schedule, and quality standards.
- Mentor and develop junior staff while promoting continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with internal and external teams on complex projects.
- Develop recommendations for materials, construction techniques, and project specifications.
- Serve as a technical specialist providing advice and guidance to project teams.
- Ensure compliance with all health & safety duties of designers.
What Our Client is Looking For:
- Civil Engineering design and/or hydraulics/structural background.
- Experience in design and build, particularly non-infrastructure water/wastewater treatment works.
- Proven ability to lead and manage a multidisciplinary team (civil, structural, geotechnical, hydraulics).
- Strong interpersonal skills to interface across disciplines and deliver engineering outputs efficiently.
