Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire Salary: £35,000 – £52,000 per annum (up to £52,000 DOE) Type: Full-Time | Permanent
A well-established engineering consultancy in Abingdon is seeking a Civil Engineer or Senior Civil Engineer to join its growing infrastructure team.
This role provides an exceptional opportunity for an engineer to expand their expertise across residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments, working within a supportive, collaborative team that fosters professional development and long-term progression.
About the Role
You’ll contribute to a multidisciplinary design team, delivering drainage and highway designs, preparing technical reports, and coordinating with clients and stakeholders. Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting projects from pre-planning through to construction stages
- Managing smaller projects independently while collaborating on larger schemes
- Producing technical designs and reports
- Coordinating planning, detailed design, and construction phases
- (For Senior Engineers): Mentoring junior staff, reviewing technical work, and taking increasing ownership of project delivery
The consultancy encourages cross-sector experience, helping engineers develop a strong technical and commercial expertise in infrastructure and development.

Responsibilities
- Design drainage, highways, and infrastructure solutions
- Prepare technical specifications and reports for approvals
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders
- Support projects from concept through to completion
- (For Senior Engineers): Mentor juniors, review work, and drive project delivery
- Comply with relevant design standards and approval processes
- Utilise Civil 3D and other civil engineering software
Requirements
Essential
- Degree in Civil Engineering (BEng or MEng preferred)
- Experience within a civil engineering consultancy
- Knowledge of drainage, highways, infrastructure, or development projects
- Familiarity with relevant design standards and approvals
- Proficiency in Civil 3D and other civil engineering software
- Strong communication, organisational, and project management skills
Desirable
- Professional qualification (EngTech, IEng, or CEng) in pursuit or obtained
- Experience mentoring junior engineers or technicians (for Senior Engineers)
- Knowledge of urban planning and construction processes
