Are you an experienced and dedicated professional in the field of civil enforcement looking for a rewarding opportunity within a dynamic local authority? West Berkshire Council is seeking a Civil Enforcement Officer to join our Transport and Countryside Service, working alongside the Shift Leader - Civil Enforcement Officer, to ensure the effective enforcement of parking regulations and contribute to the smooth operation of transport services in the region.
The Role
As a Civil Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for:
- Conducting regular patrols to monitor and enforce parking regulations, issuing Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) as necessary.
- Ensuring compliance with parking restrictions, including resident permits, disabled badges, and other exemptions.
- Investigating and resolving parking-related enquiries and complaints from the public.
- Gathering evidence for enforcement actions, including taking photographs and preparing detailed reports.
- Attending court hearings and providing evidence as required.
- Working collaboratively with other teams and external stakeholders to address parking issues and implement improvements.
- Contributing to the overall transport and countryside objectives of the Council.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Proven experience in civil enforcement, preferably within a local authority environment.
- Sound knowledge of parking legislation, regulations, and enforcement practices.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deal with members of the public in challenging situations.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively.
- Attention to detail, ensuring accurate record-keeping and report writing.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues and external partners.
- Driving licence and willingness to travel across West Berkshire.

You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement starting at 28 days per annum, pro rata (plus public holidays) Rising by an additional 5 days after 5 years’ service.
