Civil Engineer

Civil Engineer – Nuclear New Build / Heavy Civil & Structural Design

Sector: Nuclear New Build | Heavy Civil Engineering & Structural Design Location: Bristol (Hybrid: 3 days per week – office/site-based) Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a Tier 1 engineering consultancy to recruit an experienced Civil Engineer within their expanding major infrastructure & clean energy division. This role demands technical governance, engineering oversight, and delivery assurance for complex civil detailing work, ensuring end-to-end robustness and compliance on a landmark UK energy development.

The ideal candidate will bridge client requirements, multi-disciplinary design teams, and tier 1 contractors, leading high-value infrastructure packages with excellence in structural integrity and regulatory adherence.


Responsibilities

Technical Governance

  • Provide authoritative technical advice and engineering support across the full design & construction lifecycle for a dedicated civil detailing contract package.
  • Lead technical reviews, verification, and approvals for master detailer deliverables and structural drawings with absolute rigor.

Regulatory & Quality Assurance

  • Enforce full compliance with UK standards, replication principles, and corporate governance, including Nuclear sector frameworks (highly desirable).
  • Manage configuration control, risk mitigation, and master programme deviations to safeguard project integrity.

Contract & Delivery Leadership

  • Oversee pre-contract phases (tendering, scope definition) and post-contract execution loops, ensuring seamless transition between phases.
  • Act as the primary technical interface between:
    • Client stakeholders
    • Internal project management
    • External supply chain partners

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Chair high-level technical meetings, design workshops, and progress briefings to drive delivery momentum.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, aligning technical requirements and managing complex interfaces (including conflict resolution).

Key Requirements

Technical & Design Expertise

  • Proven leadership in heavy civil engineering (preferably with concrete/steel detailing and industrial construction).
  • Deep understanding of design process governance, from conceptualisation to final execution.
  • Hands-on experience in Nuclear, power generation, or major defense infrastructure (transferable candidates welcome).

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Expertise in configuration management, quality assurance frameworks, and standardised replication methodologies.
  • Thumbprint familiarity with UK regulatory standards (e.g., NUREG, BS EN, IPC Rodolfo).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Degree/HNC/HND in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent vocational training).
  • Extensive experience in:
    • Detailing assurance
    • Squad-checking for structural drawing correctness
    • Team coordination in complex environments

Soft Skills

  • Consultative stakeholder management ability to synthesise diverse technical opinions.
  • Conflict-resolution in multi-party negotiations.
  • Exceptional written/verbal communication to bridge engineering gaps seamlessly.
