About the Role
Join Tetra Tech as a Senior or Principal Civil Engineer and take a leading role in delivering high-impact, technically complex projects within a collaborative, forward-thinking environment.
This role places you at the heart of our Northern Ireland team, working closely with colleagues in Belfast while delivering projects across Scotland, Northern Ireland, and beyond. You will lead the design and delivery of civil infrastructure schemes, contribute to multidisciplinary projects, and support the growth of our regional capability. The position offers a varied, technically stimulating role with clear opportunities for progression into leadership.
Your Impact in This Position
You will:
- Drive all phases of project delivery—from concept through to completion—balancing technical excellence, commercial awareness, and client engagement.
- Work with a high degree of autonomy to ensure projects are delivered on time, to budget, while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, contribute to business development, and mentor junior engineers to build a strong and capable team.

Core Responsibilities
Technical Delivery & Design
- Lead civil engineering design using industry standards and best practices.
- Produce high-quality outputs across drainage, infrastructure, and site development.
Project & Commercial Management
- Manage project resources, budgets, and timelines effectively.
- Contribute to fee proposals and monitor project profitability.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Secure approvals and represent the team professionally and credibly.
Collaboration & Team Development
- Work seamlessly within multidisciplinary teams across the UK.
- Mentor graduates, apprentices, and junior engineers to foster growth.
Quality, Safety & Professional Standards
- Champion health, safety, and technical excellence.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant standards and procedures.
Requirements
Education & Qualifications
- Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering (BEng or MEng).
- Chartered status (or close to achieving it) is essential.
- Proficiency in design standards and tools such as:
- AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Micro/Info Drainage
- Microsoft Office

Experience & Skills
- 5–10 years’ industry experience in civil engineering.
- Strong communication skills, commercial awareness, and a proactive approach to professional development.
Working Environment
- Location: Edinburgh (with hybrid working typically 2–3 days in the office).
- Travel: Required across Scotland and Northern Ireland (aligns with project and team needs).
- Team Collaboration: Integration with our Belfast team for enriched project delivery.
