The Opportunity

A leading national housebuilder is expanding its technical team in the North East and is seeking a Civil Engineer to join its Newcastle-based operation. This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with residential development experience or a strong infrastructure background looking to move into housebuilding to join a business with a healthy, growing regional land pipeline.

You'll work across the full technical lifecycle of residential sites: taking outline designs from planning consent through to fully detailed, construction-ready packages, and supporting live sites through to construction and adoption. You'll be part of a supportive regional technical team, working closely with the Engineering Manager, external consultants, and site-based construction teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, coordinate, and check civil engineering designs produced by external consultants, including roads, sewers, drainage (foul and surface water, including SuDS), earthworks, and foundation design
  • Ensure all technical designs meet NHBC Standards, current Building Regulations, and Local Highway/Water Authority requirements
  • Support the preparation of technical information for planning submissions and the discharge of planning conditions
  • Assist with the preparation and progression of S38, S104, and S278 Section Agreements
  • Liaise directly with Local Planning Authorities, Highway Authorities, and statutory undertakers on technical queries
  • Provide technical support to site-based teams, helping resolve engineering issues during construction
  • Carry out site inspections to monitor compliance with approved designs and identify issues early
  • Support the adoption process by managing snagging lists and coordinating remedial works with site teams
  • Maintain accurate technical records, drawings, and correspondence for each development.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
