Civil Engineer
Sector: Nuclear New Build / Heavy Civil Engineering & Structural Design
Location: Bristol (Hybrid: 3 days per week office/site-based)
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
The Opportunity:
We are partnering with a premier Tier 1 engineering and technical services consultancy to recruit an experienced Civil Engineer. Operating within an expanding major infrastructure and clean energy division, this role provides technical governance, engineering oversight, and delivery assurance for complex civil detailing work packages across their complete lifecycle.
This position bridges the gap between client requirements, multi-disciplinary design teams, and tier 1 detailing contractors. It is an exceptional opportunity for a technically grounded Civil Engineer to lead high-value infrastructure packages, ensuring stringent compliance and structural integrity on a landmark UK energy development.
Main Responsibilities:
- Technical Ownership: Provide authoritative technical advice and engineering support for a dedicated civil detailing contract package across the full design and construction lifecycle.
- Oversight & Assurance: Lead the technical review, verification, and engineering approval of all master detailer deliverables and structural drawings.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all civil and structural designs comply fully with UK standards, project-specific replication principles, and strict corporate governance.
- Lifecycle Contract Management: Manage both the pre-contract phases (including tendering, scope of works creation, and requirements definition) and post-contract detailed design execution loops.
- Team Coordination: Coordinate multi-disciplinary team members, aligning technical requirements, managing deliverable reviews, and ensuring personnel competency alignment.
- Interface Management: Act as the primary technical interface between client entities, internal project management, and external supply chain stakeholders.
- Risk & Configuration Control: Proactively manage engineering design risks, implement robust configuration control, and mitigate master programme deviations.
- Technical Leadership: Chair high-level technical meetings, design workshops, and progress reporting activities to drive delivery momentum.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
