About Waterman Building Structures
Waterman Building Structures is the structural engineering division of Waterman Group, providing innovative and sustainable engineering solutions for some of the UK's most exciting building projects. From large-scale commercial developments and residential schemes to healthcare, education and refurbishment projects, our engineers work collaboratively to deliver practical, buildable designs that make a lasting impact.
Role Overview
As an experienced Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for designing below ground foul and surface water drainage systems to ensure safe water or sewerage flows for multiple projects.
Main Duties
- Planning below ground foul and surface water drainage systems using computer modelling software
- Undertaking technical below ground drainage design works, i.e. below ground drainage layout drawings, below ground drainage detail drawings, below ground drainage specification documentation, etc.
- Attending project meetings
- Visiting sites to gain an understanding of the project
- Liaising with other teams and departments within WSL
- Liaising with other external design team members on various projects
- Working with clients to ensure that their requirements are fulfilled, and expectations met
- Using advanced computer modelling tools, i.e. Info Drainage, in the design of below ground foul and surface water drainage systems
- Assessing the environmental impact of proposed works
- Keeping up to date with changing legislation and codes of practice to ensure compliance
- Answering technical queries, both internally within WSL and externally with other parties, etc.
- Visiting the site during construction (where required) to make sure the works are completed to specification
- Undertaking drainage strategy reports in order to satisfy planning condition requirements on projects
- Liaising and agreeing with Thames Water on pre-development enquires and Section 106 agreements on various projects
- Liaising and agreeing with the City of London (where required) regarding Section 106 agreements on various projects
- Able to work on multiple projects in order to satisfy the internal WSL programme requirements
- Experience of designing single building and multi-building site below ground drainage systems
