This role at AECOM offers an outstanding opportunity for a skilled Civil Engineer to advance your career while contributing to transformative infrastructure projects. From designing highways, drainage systems, defence schemes, and data centres to supporting on-site construction, you’ll grow in technical delivery and project management, gaining responsibility and professional fulfillment.

Your work will span critical sectors, including:

  • Transportation (highways, railways)
  • Public & private sector projects
  • Defence, healthcare, education, and commercial developments
  • Flood mitigation, utilities, and environmental compliance

Collaborate with ground engineers, architects, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams in the UK and internationally to develop and deliver integrates solutions, fostering innovation and technical excellence.


Key Responsibilities

As a Civil Engineer at AECOM, you’ll be central to shaping projects that transform infrastructure. Your tasks include:

  • Preparing and reviewing survey specifications, including topographical, utilities, and construction site surveys.
  • Producing and coordinating feasibility studies, assessments, and conceptual designs for development schemes (e.g., drainage, highways, and earthworks).
  • Contributing to the design and delivery of complex road infrastructure, drainage systems, and associated solutions in multidisciplinary projects.
  • Liaising with regulatory bodies and stakeholders to ensure compliance, planning orientations, and project approvals.
  • Supporting client bids and proposals, presenting technical solutions, and actively attending project meetings.

Qualifications & Requirements

AECOM recognises the value of a diverse range of experience. While we are open to exploring candidates with various backgrounds, successful applicants will typically align with the following criteria:

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Education:
    • Civil Engineering degree or master’s (CEng/IEng is a preference but not mandatory).
  • Experience:
    • Proven track record in development-related infrastructure engineering in the UK.
    • Experience in the design of highways, access routes, roads, drainage systems, SQLite development processes, public realm infrastructure, earthworks and pavements, corporate governance, new technologies.
    • Hands-on experience designing via 3D modelling tools like Civil 3D.
    • Experience designing piping and SUDS storage systems with tools like InfoDrainage.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Knowledge of regulation standards and guidance relevant to the field.
    • Understanding of climate resilience and progress management practices.
  • Commitment to professional development:
    • Demonstrates active pursuit towards a CEng/IEng registration/accreditation.
