Are you a civil engineer driven by complex design, multidisciplinary collaboration, and delivering impactful infrastructure?
At BakerHicks, we’re always looking ahead, and we're inviting expressions of interest from civil engineers who want to be part of our future growth in London.
We design and deliver projects across public sector, defence, life sciences, power and nuclear. If you want to contribute to projects that matter, in a company that values both technical expertise and professional development, we’d love to hear from you.
What we typically look for
- Experience in civil infrastructure design such as roads, drainage, external works, earthworks and utilities
- Competence using AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage, and other civil design software
- A solid understanding of UK design standards, regulations and planning processes
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams across architecture, structures, building services and more
- Knowledge of BIM processes and willingness to embrace digital design and coordination tools
- Prior experience working on high-security or regulated sites (e.g. MoD, nuclear, healthcare) is advantageous
- A degree in civil engineering and working toward or already chartered with ICE or equivalent
- Experience working as a civil engineer in specialised sectors like highways/roads or aviation is a plus

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
