The Role

William James Recruitment is instructed by a leading UK commercial law firm seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join its highly regarded and fast-growing Cross-Border Disputes practice, based primarily in London.

The firm is a nationally recognised, Top 50 practice with a strong international footprint and a reputation for delivering solutions-driven, commercial legal advice through an integrated, partner-led model. Its disputes offering has grown significantly in recent years and is now regarded as one of the most ambitious and exciting platforms in the market.

The Cross-Border Disputes team focuses on high-value, complex international litigation and arbitration. Current mandates include substantial asset recovery claims, fraud disputes, and investor/state matters with a strong international dimension. Clients include private equity-backed businesses, high-net-worth individuals, and overseas governments, providing global exposure without the heavy conflicts typically associated with Magic or Silver Circle firms.

This is a pivotal hire within the team. The successful candidate will play a key role in:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
