Waterman Infrastructure & Environment provides civil engineering, highways, bridge engineering, and environmental consultancy services for infrastructure and development projects across the UK. Our multidisciplinary teams work collaboratively to deliver practical, sustainable solutions that enhance connectivity, support development, and create lasting value for communities.

As a Consultant/Engineer, you will contribute to the delivery of highways and infrastructure projects across a range of clients, including local authorities and developers. You will undertake defined elements of technical work with increasing autonomy, applying sound engineering judgement while supporting project teams and developing your professional capability.

The role aligns with the CRF by balancing technical delivery, compliance, innovation, and contribution to team and business performance.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Project Delivery

  • Deliver highways and infrastructure design projects across feasibility, preliminary design, detailed design, and construction support stages.
  • Produce designs in accordance with UK standards including DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, TSRGD, and local authority specifications.
  • Directly support a project lead or deputy project engineer on highways schemes including junction improvements, active travel, bus priority measures, public realm, highway drainage, and development-led infrastructure.
  • Oversee and participate in the preparation of design and drawings using AutoCAD/Civil 3D software, specifications, technical reports, and tender documentation.
  • Respond to technical queries during design and construction, including liaison with the client, contractors, and site teams.
  • Support road safety audits, design reviews, and technical approval processes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
