Civil Resident Setting Out Engineer

Location: UK – Multiple Locations
Industry: HV Transmission & Distribution

Scope of Work

An exciting opportunity for a Civil Resident Setting Out Engineer to join a busy Electrical Transmission team in delivering key substation projects across the UK, working with clients like National Grid and SSE.

Have you ambitions to work with a market-leader on significant, large-scale projects?

Turner Lovell is currently recruiting for a Civil Resident Setting Out Engineer to join a leading grid connection contractor. You will play a crucial role in supporting the Civil Site Manager, making sure everything on site runs smoothly, safely, and on time. You will be hands-on with planning, design, and construction, helping keep things on track and up to standard.

Role Responsibilities

  • Set out civil works: RC foundations, drainage, ducting, earthworks, roads, fencing
  • Support site and project managers in meeting key design and build milestones
  • Review and advise on Temporary Works; assist TWC/TWS throughout project lifecycle
  • Prepare handover documents, H&S files, and inspection plans
  • Resolve on-site design issues and manage change control (TQs/RFIs)
  • Coordinate as-built drawings and ensure timely client submission
  • Attend design/coordination meetings and support tender planning

Ideal Profile

  • 3+ years’ experience in surveying/setting out
  • Civil Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Experience in electrical transmission/distribution preferred
  • CSCS card and full UK driving license required
  • Familiar with NG Transmission Procedures and BS5975 Temporary Works
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Confident with Microsoft Office, databases, and CAD
  • Good understanding of technical specifications and supplier requirements
