Are you ready to take ownership of complex civil engineering systems that play a critical role in managing the UK’s nuclear legacy? Would you thrive in a role where you can apply your expertise across a unique mix of historic and modern structures while shaping how they are maintained, improved, and decommissioned?

Hinkley Point A offers a rare opportunity to work at the forefront of nuclear decommissioning, supporting the safe long-term management of vital infrastructure. As a Civil System Engineer, you’ll work across an incredibly diverse portfolio from concrete foundations and sumps to steel structures and reactor shield walls building your expertise in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.

What Will You Be Doing

In this role, you’ll take ownership of a portfolio of civil engineering systems, becoming the focal point for their performance, safety, and compliance. You’ll define and deliver engineering strategies that ensure long-term reliability while identifying opportunities for maintenance improvements and investment. Your work will directly support safe site operations and the successful delivery of decommissioning activities.

  • Own and manage assigned civil systems, developing strategies to ensure safety, compliance, and long-term performance
  • Lead inspections, monitor and analyse system data, and implement corrective actions and improvements
  • Support and deliver engineering modifications, acting as the responsible engineer for system changes
  • Provide expert technical input to projects and stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration and delivery
  • Play a key role in monitoring system performance, leading inspections, and developing the documentation and technical standards needed to maintain compliance
  • Work across teams to provide proactive engineering support to projects, ensuring seamless integration and handover of system changes, while contributing to continuous improvement and operational learning

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Who Are We Looking For

You’re a motivated and capable civil engineer with experience working in an industrial or plant-based environment, confident in applying engineering standards within a regulated setting. You bring a strong safety mindset and enjoy taking ownership of systems, solving problems, and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. You’re equally comfortable applying your existing knowledge and developing new expertise especially in nuclear operations.

  • A recognised engineering qualification (minimum HNC or equivalent, ideally with a degree) and experience in a civil engineering role within an industrial or plant environment
  • Experience in nuclear or conventional plant operations, engineering, or maintenance, with a strong understanding of engineering standards and compliance
  • Proven ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders in a collaborative, safety-focused environment
  • A desire to develop professionally, with interest in progressing toward professional membership or chartership

We also welcome applications from those looking to develop and therefore may not meet all the essential criteria for the role. In these circumstances there may be a lower grade offered for a development opportunity. The successful candidate would be considered on a case by case basis and supported with a PDP (Personal Development Plan) to enable a clear path for progression into the role.
