Civilian Investigator

Civilian Investigators – Metropolitan Police Service

The Metropolitan Police Service is seeking experienced Civilian Investigators to support a highly significant and large-scale criminal investigation at a critical stage of case development.

This is an opportunity to contribute to one of the most complex and high-profile investigations in the UK, working alongside dedicated professionals to build robust cases for submission to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Contract Details

  • Duration: 12-month initial contract
  • Rate: £22.42 per hour (+ holiday and benefits) or £29.11 via Umbrella company (IR35 compliant)
  • Location: Based out of Hendon
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid working available

The Role

You will play a key role in progressing complex lines of enquiry, managing investigative material, and producing high-quality evidential reports.

Opportunities are available across two core teams:

Investigation Teams

  • Progress complex investigations and develop evidential case files
  • Conduct detailed analysis of evidence and intelligence
  • Work collaboratively with wider investigative teams

Disclosure Teams

  • Review and manage large volumes of sensitive material
  • Ensure compliance with disclosure obligations
  • Support preparation of prosecution-ready case files

Working Arrangements

Investigation Teams

  • Full-time: (Minimum 4 days per week)
    • 4 days office-based
    • 1 day remote

Disclosure Teams

  • Full-time: (5 days)
    • 3 days office-based
    • 2 days remote
  • Part-time (under 5 days): 1 day remote
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, standard office hours
  • Parking: Free parking (10–15 minute walk)

Essential Criteria

  • PI2 accredited
  • Recent experience in serious and/or complex crime investigations
  • Proven experience managing complex investigations within the last 5 years
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to process detailed information
  • Excellent report writing and evidential documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working within a multi-agency investigative environment
  • Knowledge of HOLMES systems
  • Background in project management or delivery
