Apprentice Site Civil Engineer
Department: Operations Management/Site Operations Management Location: South East England
Description

With over 1,000 employees and a £150m turnover, we’re growing—and now looking for an Apprentice Site Civil Engineer to play a key role in our project delivery teams.
The Role
As an Apprentice Site Civil Engineer you will gain hands-on site experience supporting the delivery of civil engineering works with exposure to earthworks, drainage, foundations, concrete structures, and associated civil infrastructure. The role provides a structured learning environment to develop practical skills, health & safety awareness, and civil engineering knowledge.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Technical Responsibilities - Civil Engineering Support
- Assist Site Engineers in the supervision and inspection of civil works.
- Support site setting-out, verification, and measurement of civil works.
- Help monitor progress and quality of earthworks, foundations, drainage, and concrete works.
- Report observations and site issues to supervising engineers.
- Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality & Compliance
- Follow all site health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Attend toolbox talks, site inductions, and training sessions.
- Learn to implement safe systems of work on site.
- Support inspections, testing, and documentation of civil works.
- Help ensure works meet design, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and assist in compiling site documentation.
- Learning & Development
- Participate in structured on-the-job training and mentoring from Senior and Site Engineers.
- Develop understanding of civil engineering principles, construction techniques, and site management processes.
- Complete any associated classroom or online training modules as part of the apprenticeship programme.

What We’re Looking For
Essential
- ‘A’ Levels in Maths, English, and Science
- Interest in civil engineering or construction as a career
- Any exposure to practical site work, work experience, or vocational projects
Desirable
- Participation in STEM clubs, competitions, or work experience placements
- Computer literacy (MS Office, basic CAD or engineering software awareness)
- Previous work experience or placement in civil engineering, construction, or utilities sectors
