About Us
Our client is a contractor providing safe, high quality surfacing, civil engineering and infrastructure projects to local authorities and tier contractors throughout the UK on a range of frameworks and projects.
Given the companies growth trajectory, they are looking to recruit in a number of positions including their Operations team where they require a Contracts Manager from a civil engineering & surfacing/highways background to cover North West, North East and into Scotland. This is a site-based role, however some time will be required in the Carlisle office.
Job Role
A Contracts Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects relating to construction projects & ensuring that any issues are resolved as quickly & effectively as possible. Further responsibilities include the financial monitoring & control of the contracts, ensuring Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality compliance is maintained in accordance with company procedures & objectives. Selective specific details are listed below.
- Plan projects & ensure they are programmed to a level of detail necessary to deliver the scheme without delays.
- Ensure procurement & reconciliation of materials to best value & to prevent delays.
- Attend tender handover meetings & deliver pre-start meetings to the site team.
- Ensure a project commercial plan & end of life forecast is in place & monitored for successful commercial delivery.
- Produce and analyse progress reports, updated costs & forecasts.
- Ensure the commercial engagement of subcontractors & adherence to relevant health, safety & quality standards.
- Implement the risk management process, review risk register and check risk controls.
- Review the CVRs monthly with the project teams, implementing necessary actions.
- Ensure weekly review of progress, budget resources & forward planning & lookahead programmes are in place.
- Attend/chair internal & external meetings to ensure the production of accurate records of any discussions & actions.
- Ensure timely management of both temporary & permanent design to meet the requirements of each project.
- Set the highest possible standards of leadership in the promotion of HS&E procedures and best practice.
- Ensuring compliance with Company procedures & legal obligations.
- Allocate HS&E responsibilities and duties for site personnel, check understanding and provide training as necessary.
- Oversee & ensure that HSE-related documents are kept up to date and undertake senior manager site inspections.
- Liaise with third parties to ensure compliance with HAUC, NRSWA, Chapter 8 & other required regulatory standards.
- Build & maintain relationships with both the Client/Customers.
- Ensure that works are carried out in a manner which minimises community impact.
- Assisting with the preparation of tenders for Clients and commercial bids to help bring in new business.

Knowledge/Education/Skills

- An understanding of the construction industry & contractual documentation.
- Strong leadership skills & business management skills with the ability to use your initiative.
- Extensive experience of managing projects within a resurfacing/civils environment.
- Working knowledge of contract conditions, CDM regulations, design management, programme & risk management.
- Knowledge of cost control including forecasting, actual cost & value reporting.
- Experience of Microsoft project & appropriate IT knowledge.
- Knowledge of the NEC contract including the Early Warning and Compensation Event mechanisms.
- Educated as a minimum to HNC/HND/Degree level (or equivalent).
- Experience of Pre-Qualification & Tendering process for a number of multi-discipline projects.
- CSCS Card to required level.
- SMSTS.
