Civils & Groundworks Operative – Water Utilities

Company: Bluegrid Technology Ltd T/A Bluegrid Utilities

Location: Coventry / Midlands / Surrounding Areas

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent / Contract opportunities available

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

Work Location: Field-based / On-site

Start Date: Immediate start preferred

The Role

As a Civils & Groundworks Operative, you will support utility infrastructure works, including excavation, trenching, reinstatement and associated groundworks for water meter installation and maintenance projects.

You will work as part of a field team, ensuring all works are completed safely, professionally, on time and to the required specification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out excavation, trenching and groundworks activities
  • Support smart water meter installation and external meter works
  • Assist with locating, exposing and accessing underground water assets
  • Carry out reinstatement works following excavation
  • Use hand tools, breakers, compactors and other equipment safely
  • Support pipework, chamber, boundary box and service-related works where required
  • Follow RAMS, site instructions, permit conditions and safety procedures
  • Set up and maintain safe working areas, including barriers, cones and signage where required
  • Maintain a clean, safe and professional working environment
  • Report site issues, delays, defects, service strikes, near misses or safety concerns immediately
  • Work effectively with supervisors, project coordinators, water meter technicians and reinstatement teams
  • Complete job records, photos and daily reporting where required

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience in civils, groundworks, utilities, drainage, reinstatement or construction
  • Good understanding of safe excavation and site working practices
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good timekeeping and willingness to travel for site work
  • Ability to follow instructions, RAMS and safety procedures
  • Right to work in the UK

Preferred Requirements

  • Valid CSCS card
  • NRSWA Operative qualification
  • Full UK driving licence
  • CAT & Genny training
  • Manual handling training
  • First Aid training
  • CPCS / NPORS plant tickets
  • Experience in water utilities, meter installation, boundary boxes or reinstatement works
