Civils & Groundworks Operative – Water Utilities

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent / Contract opportunities available
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Work Location: Field-based / On-site

The Role
As a Civils & Groundworks Operative, you will support utility infrastructure works, including excavation, trenching, reinstatement and associated groundworks for water meter installation and maintenance projects.
You will work as part of a field team, ensuring all works are completed safely, professionally, on time and to the required specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out excavation, trenching and groundworks activities
- Support smart water meter installation and external meter works
- Assist with locating, exposing and accessing underground water assets
- Carry out reinstatement works following excavation
- Use hand tools, breakers, compactors and other equipment safely
- Support pipework, chamber, boundary box and service-related works where required
- Follow RAMS, site instructions, permit conditions and safety procedures
- Set up and maintain safe working areas, including barriers, cones and signage where required
- Maintain a clean, safe and professional working environment
- Report site issues, delays, defects, service strikes, near misses or safety concerns immediately
- Work effectively with supervisors, project coordinators, water meter technicians and reinstatement teams
- Complete job records, photos and daily reporting where required

Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in civils, groundworks, utilities, drainage, reinstatement or construction
- Good understanding of safe excavation and site working practices
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good timekeeping and willingness to travel for site work
- Ability to follow instructions, RAMS and safety procedures
- Right to work in the UK

Preferred Requirements
- Valid CSCS card
- NRSWA Operative qualification
- Full UK driving licence
- CAT & Genny training
- Manual handling training
- First Aid training
- CPCS / NPORS plant tickets
- Experience in water utilities, meter installation, boundary boxes or reinstatement works
