Cladding Buyer

Based in Peterborough, KGM Roofing has been part of the Lindum Group since 1977 and since then have grown steadily with the support of the Group’s resources, expertise and financial strength. KGM offer a complete service to its clients including consultation, design, installation and maintenance delivering projects across the UK.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Cladding Buyer to manage the procurement of cladding materials, systems, fixings, accessories, plant, and associated services for live and upcoming construction projects. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, estimators, design teams, site teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure materials are sourced at the best value, delivered on time, compliant with specification, and aligned with project budgets and programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procure cladding materials, façade systems, fixings, flashings, insulation, membranes, plant, equipment, and associated services in line with project requirements.
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, and project documentation to identify material requirements and support accurate take-offs.
  • Obtain, analyse, and compare supplier quotations to secure best value while maintaining quality, compliance, and programme requirements.
  • Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, lead times, and delivery arrangements with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Raise and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy of quantities, specifications, delivery addresses, costs, and approval requirements.
  • Monitor long-lead items and proactively manage delivery schedules to prevent project delays.
  • Maintain strong relationships with approved suppliers and identify new supply chain opportunities where appropriate.
  • Track market trends, material availability, price increases, and product developments within the cladding and façade sector.
  • Liaise with site teams, project managers, design teams, estimators, and commercial colleagues to ensure procurement activities support project delivery.
  • Resolve supply, quality, delivery, invoice, and non-conformance issues promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure materials meet relevant project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and regulatory expectations.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier information, order trackers, cost reports, and purchase ledger documentation.
  • Support cost saving initiatives, framework agreements, preferred supplier arrangements, and continuous improvement across the procurement process.

Essential Experience And Skills

  • Previous buying or procurement experience within construction, preferably with roofing, cladding, façades, building envelope, or specialist subcontracting experience.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to negotiate competitive prices and favourable supplier terms.
  • Good understanding of cladding materials, façade systems, construction drawings, specifications, and project programmes.
  • Ability to undertake or support material take-offs from drawings and schedules.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, site teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail, particularly when raising orders, checking specifications, and maintaining procurement records.
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience using procurement, ERP, or purchase order systems is desirable.
  • Proactive problem-solver with the ability to identify supply risks and implement practical solutions.

Desirable Qualifications

  • CIPS qualification, working towards CIPS, or equivalent procurement training.
  • Construction-related qualification or relevant industry experience.
  • Experience working with specialist cladding contractors, main contractors, or façade subcontractors.
  • Knowledge of UK construction procurement processes, health and safety standards, and supply chain compliance requirements.

This is a full time, permanent position to be based at our offices in Fengate, Peterborough. Hours of work are Monday – Friday 0800 – 1700. Salary will be based on experience. Benefits include annual pay reviews and discretionary bonuses, profit related pay, health care cash back plan, 31 days holiday including Bank Holidays, Life Assurance, contributory Pension plus study opportunities for continuous learning and development.
