Salary, Location & Closure Date
- Salaries: From £28,000–£35,000 (dependant on experience), + annual bonus & benefits
- Work Level: Permanent (Work Level 1)
- Location: Newcastle (hybrid working after training)
- Training Period: 6 weeks of office-based training (Mon–Fri, 09:00–17:00) After this, you’ll transition to hybrid working if competencies are met.
- Closing Date: 14 July 2026
- Interviews: Expected in July 2026
The Opportunity
We’re hiring Claims Handlers – Settlements to join our Third Party Settlements Team.
Your focus:
- Proactively managing and settling claims efficiently and economically, while delivering a high standard of customer service.
- Ensuring claims align with policy cover, legal liability, and company standards.
- Dealing with stakeholders while maintaining cost control and fair settlements.
Key Responsibilities

Claims Handling & Settlement
- Ensure claims are settled in line with policies, legal rules, and expert guidance.
- Manage reserves, file statuses, recoveries, and diary deadlines.
- Identify and scale fraudulent claims or suspicions, reporting as required.

Claims Investigation & Negotiation
- Investigate claims thoroughly to verify liability before processing payments.
- Negotiate cost-effective settlements with stakeholders, balancing customer needs with company goals.

Customer Engagement & Problem-Solving
- Respond to customer queries regarding policies, exclusions, and excesses.
- proactively resolve complaints and, where needed, escalate serious cases.

Compliance & Records Management
- Ensure adherence to Financial Conduct Authority and Data Protection Act rules.
- Maintain clear documentation of all processes.

Bachelors & Supplier Collaboration
- Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and external partners to ensure a win-win outcome.
Skills & Experience Required
(Minimum Requirements)
Working with Claims & Policy Knowledge
- Deep understanding of indemnity and subrogation priorities in insurance.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle damages, liabilities, and related laws (e.g., Road Traffic Act).
Fraud Awareness & Decision-Making
- Proficiency in spotting motor, fire, and theft-related fraud.
- Ability to investigate claims accurately with investigative skills.
Organization & Commercial Acumen
- Independently prioritise and manage a portfolio of active claims.
- Exercise sound commercial judgement in claims approvals (e.g., credit hire).
Digital & Communication Skills
- IT literate—ability to navigate complex systems.
- Proficient in written and verbal communication, simplifying complex information.
- Confident negotiating solutions balancing customer and corporate interests.
