Claims & Investigation Lawyer – Permanent Role

Any UK office may be considered

Contract

Permanent, with a minimum of 3 days a week in the office

About the Role

Join a leading international law firm and help shape its approach to risk, claims, and compliance. We are seeking a talented and commercially minded Claims & Investigation Lawyer to join our General Counsel’s Office.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified solicitor or experienced claims professional with expertise in:

  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • Claims management
  • Regulatory matters

Working at the heart of the firm’s risk and compliance function, you will:

  • Play a key role in protecting the firm’s interests.
  • Manage contentious issues.
  • Support strategic risk management initiatives across the business.

Key Responsibilities

You will work closely with senior compliance, HR, and insurance specialists, reporting to the Associate General Counsel – Claims. Your core duties will include:

  • Supporting the management of professional indemnity and employment claims, including complex scenarios.
  • Liaising with insurers, brokers, and external legal advisers.
  • Supporting insurance renewal processes and advising on policy coverage issues.
  • Managing and investigating client complaints, along with monitoring associated risks.
  • Assisting with the development of policies, training materials, and internal guidance.
  • Preparing claims reports, analysing data, and identifying trends and emerging risks.
  • Monitoring regulatory developments and supporting firm-wide compliance initiatives.
  • Contributing to risk management, governance, and operational excellence projects.

This role will connect you with a highly respected General Counsel’s Office, comprising over 80 risk and compliance professionals, who provide strategic legal, regulatory, and risk advice across the firm’s international operations.

Requirements

To succeed, you must have:

  • Qualified Solicitor status or significant experience in insurance claims handling.
  • Strong knowledge of professional indemnity insurance and relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • The ability to manage matters independently with sound judgement and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the confidence to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to clarify complex issues.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders while balancing competing priorities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines.
  • A collaborative approach, with experience working across different teams and jurisdictions.
  • Tech-savvy mindset, able to understand and communicate technical processes.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to perform under pressure.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Experience in managing or mentoring teams.
  • Knowledge of US-style conflicts rules or US professional conduct rules.
  • Previous involvement in SRA professional conduct compliance.
