Claims & Investigation Lawyer
Location: Any UK office may be considered
Contract: Permanent (minimum 3 days in office per week)
Join a leading international law firm and shape its approach to risk, claims, and compliance.
We are seeking a talented and commercially minded Claims & Investigation Lawyer to join our General Counsel’s Office. This is an opportunity for a qualified solicitor or experienced claims professional with expertise in professional indemnity insurance, claims management and regulatory matters. Working at the core of the firm’s risk and compliance function, you will play a key role in protecting the firm’s interests, managing contentious issues, and supporting strategic risk management initiatives across the business.
The Opportunity
As a Claims & Investigation Lawyer, you will collaborate closely with senior compliance, HR, and insurance specialists, reporting to the Associate General Counsel – Claims. You will support the identification, management, and resolution of claims, complaints, and professional responsibility matters, ensuring effective risk management and safeguarding the firm’s reputation.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the management of professional indemnity and employment claims, as well as relevant circumstances
- Liaising with insurers, brokers, and external legal advisers
- Supporting insurance renewal processes and advising on policy coverage issues
- Managing and investigating client complaints while monitoring associated risks
- Assisting with the development of policies, training materials, and internal guidance
- Preparing reports and analysing claims data to identify trends and emerging risks
- Monitoring regulatory developments and supporting firm-wide compliance initiatives
- Contributing to projects aimed at strengthening risk management, governance, and operational excellence

You’ll join a highly respected General Counsel’s Office comprising over 80 risk and compliance professionals, providing strategic legal, regulatory, and risk advice across the firm’s international operations.
What We’re Looking For
To excel in this role, you will have:
- Qualified Solicitor (QC) status or significant experience in insurance claims handling
- Strong knowledge of professional indemnity insurance and relevant regulatory frameworks
- The ability to manage matters independently while demonstrating sound judgement and commercial awareness
- Exceptional communication skills, with the confidence to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders and balancing competing priorities effectively
- Excellent attention to detail, paired with a high level of professionalism and discretion
- Strong organisational skills to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines
- A collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively across different teams and jurisdictions
- Strong technology skills, including an interest in understanding and communicating technical processes
- Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment

Desirable Experience
- Experience managing or mentoring others
- Knowledge of US-style conflicts rules or professional conduct rules
- Previous experience advising on or supporting compliance with SRA professional conduct requirements
