International Claims Manager
Location: Leeds Type: Permanent, Full Time Remuneration: Competitive package
About the Role
The Medical Protection Society supports the careers, reputations, and financial wellbeing of its members globally. As International Claims Manager, you'll lead high-quality, efficient, and trusted claims handling for a diverse portfolio across multiple jurisdictions.
This role offers a fast-paced, globally focused opportunity to manage claims from South East Asia to the Caribbean, where legal, cultural, and procedural complexities require sharp expertise. Your caseload will range from high-value litigation to cost-sensitive, lower-value matters, allowing you to apply strategic thinking and commercial judgment at every stage.
Key Responsibilities
- Portfolio Management: Oversee international claims while ensuring compliance with governance, policy, and regulatory standards
- Case Strategy: Develop and execute effective case strategies to achieve fair outcomes within agreed service-level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Commercial Judgment: Apply technical expertise and financial acumen to advance claims efficiently and cost-effectively
- External Collaboration: Work closely with and manage panel firms to optimise performance, control costs, and ensure high-quality service delivery
- Financial Oversight: Set, monitor, and challenge claims reserves, costs, and third-party invoices in alignment with financial governance
- Stakeholder Communication: Provide clear, empathetic, and professional support to members, addressing concerns and upholding service standards
- Strategic Contribution: Build strong internal relationships, engage in governance forums, and contribute to strategic discussions
- Risk Mitigation: Identify and escalate risks across claims, while driving continuous improvement and knowledge-sharing initiatives

Requirements
- Essential:
- Proven experience in clinical negligence, preferably in a defendant or insurer role
- Strong ability to manage high-volume caseloads with excellent prioritisation and resilience
- Experience collaborating with and supervising panel firms and external stakeholders
- Understanding of legal and cultural nuances across South East Asia and/or the Caribbean
- Analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills with sound commercial judgment
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations empathetically
