HGV Class 1 Dray Driver – Permanent (Full-Time) Role
Pay Rate: £38,559.65
Grade: P
Contract Type: Permanent (Full-Time) Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday (04:00 - 06:00) 4 compulsory Saturdays per year 46-hour working week
Location: Totton, Hampshire, SO40 3NB
About the Role
DHL, an award-winning leader in supply chain solutions, is seeking a HGV Class 1 Dray Driver to join the team.
This is a customer-facing role with a strong social element, ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships and delivering service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Whilst maintaining the highest health and safety standards, your duties will include:
- Working Mondays to Fridays with early starts (at 4:00 AM)
- Completing 4 compulsory Saturdays per year as part of the role
- Delivering alcoholic products to pubs, restaurants, and hotels
- Making 10–12 drops per day (average)
- Managing manual handling of up to 11 tonnes of stock daily
- Driving safely and efficiently, adhering to:
- Drivers' Hours and Working Time Directive regulations
- Health & Safety
- Road safety laws
- Vehicle regulations

When working with a Driver’s Mate, you’ll be responsible for:
- Supporting unloading
- Managing Proof of Deliveries (PODs)
- Keeping the transport team updated
Requirements & Preferences
We’re looking for candidates with the following experience, but we encourage all applications as we value potential and diversity:
✅ Essential:
- Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) Licence
- Completed Driver CPC & Digital Tachograph Card
- No more than 6 penalty points on your licence
🔹 Desirable:
- Experience with multi-drop HGV driving
- Previous dray or similar delivery missions
