Class 2 Driver – Birmingham Airport Consolidation Centre
Contract Role | GXO
Location: Birmingham Airport Consolidation Centre Hours: Minimum 40 hours per week, flexible 02:00–10:00 / 04:00–10:00 shifts (5-day weekly pattern, with additional flexibility during summer peaks).
About the Role
GXO is seeking a **Class 2 driver to join our team at Birmingham Airport Consolidation Centre. This role involves aviation security operations, including X-ray machine handling, goods handling, and time-critical deliveries within the airport. The primary focus is on driving an 18-tonne rigid lorry onto the airfield for door-to-door deliveries, with less than 20% of the working day dedicated to actual driving.

- Annual salary: £34,142.79
- Overtime: Paid at time-and-a-half after 40 hours

Responsibilities
Core Accountabilities
- Aviation security functions:
- Receive goods, load/unload conveyor belts for X-ray scanning
- Operate X-ray machines (requires Digital National X-Ray competency certification)
- Goods handling:
- Decant goods from pallets/cages, restack and reconsolidate
- Load/unload vehicles efficiently
- Driving & logistics:
- Operate 18-tonne Class 2 rigid lorry to deliver goods onside the airport airside
- Drive to concession areas within the terminal post-security checks
- Perform delivery sign-offs and coordinate with customers on arrival
- Health & safety compliance:
- Maintain road safety and vehicle compliance knowledge
Requirements
Key Qualifications
✅ Valid Class 2 licence with:
- Up-to-date CPC
- Digital Tachograph permit ✅ Licence conditions:
- Less than 6 penalty points (no DD, DR, DG, BA, CD, AC, LC or TT endorsements)
- Aviation security clearance = Requires full employment & address history for last 5 years.
- Successful CRB & Counter-terrorism checks
- Approved after completing aviation security & X-ray training ❌ Ineligibility:
- Complex/non-verified employment history = May result in unsuccessful application
