Class 2 Driver
Salary – £15.13 per hour
Hours – 40 hours per week, 7am to 3:45pm. Task and finish arranged by the depot but not contractual
Location – East Lothian, EH21 8PZ
As a Class 2 Driver at FCC Environment, you will support waste and recycling collection services in East Lothian. You will be responsible for driving up to 12-tonne vehicles and loading collections of recycling materials such as food waste, glass, plastics, paper, and cards. This is a practical role, involving assisting with loading the vehicle as part of the daily collection rounds. You’ll also play a key role in maintaining depot standards and ensuring all vehicle and safety procedures are followed.
This is a full-time position, working five days per week on a temporary contract for six months, with the potential to become permanent should a suitable vacancy arise.

What will you be doing?
- Drive a refuse/recycling vehicle
- Assist with loading the vehicle as part of the daily collection rounds
- Report any accident, near-miss, dangerous occurrence or dangerous condition to line management
- Oversee the vehicle at the council tipping points, ensuring the crews follow laid-down health and safety processes
- Manage your designated vehicle and carry out necessary vehicle checks
- Be in charge of all paperwork and report all incidents on the rounds
- Oversee a crew of up to two loaders per vehicle only
What are we looking for?
- A valid Cat C licence
- Valid digital tachograph card and driver’s CPC (minimum 35 hours completed)
- Reliable with strong team leadership
- Experience in waste collection is desirable but not essential – full training will be provided
- Local area knowledge is advantageous
- Committed to health and safety best practices
