Class 2 Driver

Class 2 Driver – Birmingham Airport Consolidation Centre

We are looking for a Class 2 driver to join us on a contract basis at GXO’s Birmingham Airport Consolidation Centre, working a minimum of 40 hours per week on a 5-day shift pattern (any 5 of 7 days), typically between:

  • 02:00–10:00
  • 04:00–10:00 Some flexibility will be required during summer peak to accommodate business needs.

Key Responsibilities (Daily Duties)

  • Aviation security tasks:
    • Receive goods into the centre
    • Load/unload conveyor belts leading to/from X-Ray machines
    • Operate X-Ray machines (requiring a Digital National X-Ray Competency Test certificate)
  • Managing goods:
    • Decant and restack goods from pallets/cages
    • Load/unload vehicles
  • Driving duties:
    • Operate a 18-tonne rigid (Class 2 vehicle)
    • Deliver goods onto the airfield to airport concessions after security screening
  • Customer interactions:
    • Speak to customers during deliveries
    • Complete delivery sign-off procedures
  • Note: Driving is a small portion of the role, with under 20% of working time actively driving per day.

Essential & Advantageous Requirements

Security & Licensing Mandates

All candidates must:

  • Obtain an airside pass, requiring:
    • Full 5-year employment and address history references
    • Successful Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and counter-terrorism checks
    • Completion of aviation security and X-Ray operating training
  • Have a clean employment history—unverified or repeated job changes may disqualify applicants
  • Hold a valid Class 2 licence with:
    • Up-to-date Commercial Passenger (CPC) and Digital Tachograph
    • Less than 6 points on licence (no DD, DR, DG, BA, CD, AC, LC, or TT endorsements)
  • Advantages:
    • Experience in a security environment (not required but preferred)
    • Counterbalance FLT (forklift) experience (advantageous)
