Marine PI Underwriter Role
Job Profile Summary
To participate in all aspects of underwriting and effective management of the Marine PI portfolio, supporting PI Lead as required.
Job Description
Support Marine PI Lead in:
- Driving growth via established distribution channels whilst developing new distribution opportunities, including through engagement with Chaucer International hubs.
- Agreement and negotiation of renewals and new business, in accordance with underwriting authority and aligned to Marine PI growth ambitions.
- Agreement of endorsements, amendments, and promised lines, adhering to underwriting authority.
- Acceptance of individual declarations to specific line-slips.
- Agreement of special acceptances and referrals, including secure binding authorities, line-slips, and treaties.
Proactively contribute to marketing efforts to achieve class and divisional budgets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and nurturing long-term client relationships, including foreign travel where appropriate.
- Developing a strong market peer reputation.
- Participating in and, where appropriate, chairing special projects to meet Chaucer’s long-term objectives.
- Ensuring underwriting records are properly recorded and updated, including comprehensive client files.
- Performing specific account analysis and peer reviews of risks under the allocated criteria and responsibility matrix outlined in the Underwriting Manual.
- Ensuring the accuracy and upkeep of all written premium data on Charisma for all risks under responsibility.
- Maintaining liaison with Operations and Claims Departments.
- Serving as client liaison for allocated risks.
- Providing referral support for Assistant Underwriters and Deputies.

Regulatory Responsibilities
- Compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Ensuring good customer outcomes and adherence to fair treatment of customers (FFT) standards.
- Managing customer, agent, and service-provider relationships.
