Job Profile Summary
Support the Marine PI Lead in underwriting and effectively managing the Marine PI portfolio, fulfilling delegated authority where required.
Role & Responsibilities
Support the Marine PI Lead by:
- Driving growth via established distribution channels, including developing new opportunities through engagement with Chaucer’s international hubs.
- Negotiating renewals and new business required within underwriting authority, aligned to Marine PI growth targets.
- Approving endorsements, amendments, and promised lines, adhering to CHAU’s underwriting guidelines.
- Accepting individual declarations on specified line-slips.
- Handling special acceptances and referring cases to binding authorities, treaties, and line-slips as required.

Growth & Business Development
- Proactive marketing initiatives to meet class and divisional budget targets.
- Building and maintaining long-term client relationships—including international travel where appropriate—to foster strong market reputation.
- Acting as liaison on special projects aligned to Chaucer’s long-term objectives, taking leadership where required.
Administrative Excellence
- Ensuring underwriting records and client files are properly maintained and updated.
- Performing specific account analysis and regular peer reviews of allocated risks in line with Chaucer’s underwriting selection criteria and manual processes.
- Maintaining premium data accuracy for all risks under responsibility within Charisma.
Internal & External Liaison
- Operations Department collaboration.
- Claims Department coordination.
- Client liaison for allocated accounts.
- Acting as referral point for Assistant Underwriter and Deputy.
Regulatory Responsibilities
- Fully comply with Chaucer’s policies, procedures, and governing regulations.
- Ensure fair treatment of customers and policies designed for good customer outcomes.
- Overseeing relationships with customers, agents, and service providers.
Required Skills & Competencies
Relevant experience essential:
- Specialised in Marine PI underwriting.
- Exceptional negotiation skills with brokers and clients.
- Strategic Thinking capability to translate long-term goals into actionable objectives.
- Innovative Mindset to proactively identify opportunities.
