Class Underwriter – Surety
Location: London (Hybrid)
Salary: Market Rate + Benefits
The Opportunity
We're working with a specialist MGA that is looking to appoint an experienced Class Underwriter to join its growing team to focus on Surety risks.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Underwriter looking to take ownership of a developing portfolio, working within a collaborative environment where you'll have the autonomy to influence strategy, strengthen broker relationships, and drive profitable growth.
You'll play a key role in developing the Surety book while maintaining a disciplined underwriting approach and delivering exceptional service to brokers and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite Surety business.
- Develop and grow a profitable Surety portfolio in line with business objectives.
- Build, maintain and strengthen relationships with brokers and key trading partners.
- Identify new business opportunities and contribute to the expansion of the book.
- Analyse risks, pricing and coverage to ensure profitable underwriting decisions.
- Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers and clients.
- Monitor portfolio performance and recommend actions to improve profitability.
- Work closely with senior management to support the strategic development of the Surety offering.
- Maintain accurate underwriting records and ensure compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
- Represent the business at broker meetings, market events and networking opportunities.
- Act as a point of referral for other staff members.
- Help to grow the Surety team and manage staff.

About You
We're looking for someone who has:
- Previous underwriting experience within the Surety market.
- Must have strong London Market experience.
- A strong understanding of Surety products, underwriting principles and market dynamics.
- Established broker relationships within the London insurance market would be advantageous.
- Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
- A proactive and entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to help grow a successful portfolio.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
