Are you ready to work alongside talented engineers, modellers, and consultants to shape the future of the water industry?

Join the dynamic, multidisciplinary AECOM Water Team in our rapidly growing Scotland offices, while enjoying a flexible hybrid working model.

At AECOM, we innovate—delivering exceptional water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with contractors, charities, and water companies. You’ll be a lead technical team member, supporting junior staff to deliver high-quality projects.

Our Scotland Water Team is shaping sustainable and resilient water systems for generations to come. One recent win: AECOM was named preferred bidder for one of two Primary Designers on Scottish Water’s SR27 Enterprise, a transformational multi-billion-pound programme reshaping Scotland’s water and wastewater infrastructure from 2027–2033. This collaboration with AECOM’s partners will drive net-zero outcomes and deliver long-term impact for communities across Scotland—shaping Scotland’s water future.

This role offers unparalleled opportunities to support the SR27 programme and work alongside a talented, diverse team committed to innovation, efficiency, and meaningful impact.


What You’ll Do

  • Deliver technical outputs for clean water modelling projects, including:
    • Model build and calibration
    • Model maintenance
    • Optioneering and growth studies
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary AECOM teams to develop design solutions and optioneering.
  • Prepare Health & Safety Risk Assessments documentation.
  • Support the team in efficiently managing workload and project deadlines.
  • Mentor junior team members in a technical capacity.
  • Produce reports and technical documents to meet project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering high-calibre outputs on clean water modelling projects.
  • Supporting optioneering studies and assessing hydraulic network dynamics.
  • Assisting multidisciplinary teams in meeting client requirements with excellence.
  • Mentoring junior team members to uphold AECOM’s technical and ethical standards.
  • Contributing to the ydentification of high-value contributions within all project phases.

Minimum Requirements & Desirable Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • Experience with clean water modelling software like:
    • Infoworks WS Pro
    • Synergi
  • Familiarity with GIS software, including:
    • ArcGIS, MapInfo, QGIS
  • Ability to work within financial and programme constraints.
  • Capacity to interpret project scopes and client specifications.
  • A self-motivated, proactive approach to owning your workload.
  • Skilled in technical reviews and optioneering design contributions.
  • Communication skills (written and spoken) to liaise effortlessly with industry peers water companies, utilities, and subcontractors.

Desirable:

  • Bachelor’s/degree or Master’s in:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Environmental Engineering
    • Geography
    • Environmental Science
    • (or related fields)
  • Proven track record in hydraulic network modelling (water industry focus).
  • Working towards Chartership with:
    • CIWEM (Chartered Institution of Water & Environmental Management)
    • ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers)
    • (or equivalent).
  • Experience in mentoring, managing junior staff, or acting as a technical lead.
  • Coding proficiency in languages like Ruby or Python.
  • Achievable hybrid work arrangements.
