Mid-Yield School Cleaner
Reporting to: Cleaning Supervisor or other authorised manager
About the Role
An opportunity has arisen to join the Education Authority’s cleaning team as a Mid-Yield School Cleaner, working across designated schools or educational institutions. This role is essential in maintaining clean, safe, and hygienic learning environments for pupils and staff.
Key Responsibilities
As part of a team, you will:

Flooring duties:
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, buff, and strip/re-polish hard floors using appropriate equipment.
- Clean and treat carpet/matting surfaces to remove stains.

Sanitation & fixtures:
- Thoroughly clean toilets, showers, fixtures, and fittings.

Interior spaces:
- Wash and dust ledges, walls, fixtures, and internal surfaces up to 3.35m.
- Polish furniture where required.

Waste removal:
- Empty and clean internal litter bins, disposing of waste at collection points.

Hygiene & safety compliance:
- Adhere to Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, COSHH regulations, and statutory guidelines.

- Team & coverage:
- Cover sick absences as part of the Education Authority’s coverage procedure.
- Report absences to the Building Supervisor following internal regulations.
Workplace Expectations
- Wear mandatory protective clothing and flat-soled, enclosed-toe footwear provided for this role.
- Carefully maintain issued cleaning equipment, reporting defects immediately.
- Complete all necessary pre-shift and post-shift records.
- Upskill by accepting training for higher-grade duties, if required.

Essential Requirements
- Demonstrable knowledge of:
- School cleaning methods and commercial equipment (e.g. buffing machines).
- Health & Safety protocols, including COSHH compliance.
- Experience operational employment as a cleaner, including familiarity with NICSA grade frameworks.
- Evidence of:
- Working independently under pressure and to deadlines.
- Effective oral and written communication in English.

Desirable Skills
- Three or more months’ professional/commercial cleaning experience outside the home.
- Familiarity with maintaining cleanliness in educational/sensitive environments.
Additional Commitments
Regulatory Responsibilities
- Safeguarding check necessary: Successful applicants will need an enhanced disclosure (cost: £33) to meet Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007 requirements.
- Compliance with statutory obligations in association with the role, including gender equality and tolerance practices.
Training & Development
- Mandatory EA-provided training, including induction, refresher, and specialised cleaning techniques.
- Participation in training for roles graded at or above the current level is required, if requested.
